Blogger Goes Down, Users Lose Posts & Comments

By May 13, 2011No Comments

If your personal or business website or blog is hosted with Google’s Blogger, you already know this and are suffering through it, but their platform has been down for over 24 hours. Not only are those pages unreachable, but many posts and comments have been lost.

This shows that hosting your blog or website at a third party, even Google, poses risk. At this point, users can’t even access their dashboard to export their posts if they wanted to pack up and move elsewhere.

This is a good lesson for those who are unsure about whether they should self host their website or blog, or host it with a third party like Google. When something like this happens, you’re dead in the water until they get back online, and even then, how many potential leads did you lose? How much traffic did you lose? And maybe you even lost the content you posted!

This can all be avoided by going the route of self hosting. Download WordPress and install it on your own server. Not only do you have your own domain that you own, it’s got easy to use import/export features if you wanted to migrate your content to a different platform, and more importantly, you’re not at the mercy of a third party who has control over your content or website.

Give us a call or shoot us an email if we can help you migrate your website or blog, or set up a new one.
